Subject: Always loved B. Music Hall!!
Peace to all….
Subject: Amazing show and best sounding recording I can find.
Of course, I don't need to say much about the show itself. It's the stuff of legends! The second set is quite possibly one of the best of the year. Wharf Rat is warm and full of psychedelic gooey goodness. During this 3-night run in Boston, the Dead played PitB on every single night. The first night as a set 1 closer jam (that goes on about 23 minutes, but not as exciting as the other big Playin's of the year). The second night as a part of an explosive Playin>UJB>Playin' sequence in the second set. But this one, the third night, goes into some deep explorations. Not exactly uncharted, but also not exactly explored a lot. The transition between the Playin' jam into a sound/noise/feedback jam is immaculately clean. And just when you think it's winding down, Bobby starts strumming those familiar chords. They bring it all back home with one of the best MLB jams of the year, and quite possibly of all time! From the depths of the underworld to Paradise in a matter of minutes with the Dead as your tour guide.
He's Gone>Truckin>Stella & Sugar Mag finish up the set in grand fashion before a Morning Dew encore to wrap up the run (with the song bookending the run as well as it was the opener on 11/30).
As far as '73 Dead goes, I'm not sure it gets much better than this one. To paraphrase Dean Moriarty/Neal Cassady; This is IT.
Recording gets a 5/5 and the show gets a 5/5.
Subject: A 2nd Set jam so epic, you can't fit it onto one CD
Subject: PITB
This matrix sounds incredible, by the way.
Other highlights, he's gone->truckin'->stella->sugar mag is full of red-hot GD meat. Nasty versions of BEW, jack, and let it grow. Amazing wharf rat on this concert, you can feel the pathos seeping in on it. And i also loved the row jimmy (one that i love every time). Great show, you'd be better off hearing both nights from DP14 in their entirety rather than just sticking to that, there's a lot of gold in here!
Subject: What a treat
And the sound is special. I love being able to feel the vibe of the audience but while also having really clear sound through the instruments. Superlative. Take some time and be merry!
Subject: SWEET!
